Say it with me: Creative Souls Never Sleep
The response we've received from the Amy Coe Spring 2016 Collection has been overwhelming. From buy buy BABY to Lord & Taylor (and MANY MORE in the pipeline...YAHOOZIE!), we are dressing little rockstars from coast to coast.
There have been some FAB questions sprinkled on social media and I wanted to take the time to answer some of my favorites.
What is the first step to designing a new collection?
There isn't an exact science to this process, which makes each collection authentically "Amy Coe”. It's a collection of things picked up while traveling, accumulation of tear sheets from fashion and home magazines, textiles from the D and D building…. You never know when inspiration will hit!
With kids, it‘s fun to see what's happening on the runway - as I love scaling down a trend straight from the catwalk.
Do all ideas come from Amy or is there a lot of collaboration?
All ideas for silhouette are mine, then the collaboration begins. The process is lengthly, but it all starts in the creative bubble looming above my curly hair!!!
What tools do you use to make the inspiration come to life?
This is where is becomes a team effort. After the silhouettes are carefully chosen, they are drawn by a sketch artist so all the details can be put in place and edits can be made.
When do color and pattern come into play in the process?
Pantone often declares a color for the season which is a great jumping off point, from there — depending on the season, the palette builds.
Who do you bounce ideas off of?
I have learned to trust my gut when it comes to new collections. But as always, I like to bounce ideas off of my daughter, Liv. I usually edit for fit and function as I want the pieces in the collection to become your kids’ favorite.
For me- my work boils down to all the details….raw edges, soft, cozy fabrics, top stitching, glitter, downtown attitude, metal zippers, colored ring snaps, ribbon trim, cotton lace, unexpected pockets, plus the COOL FACTOR.
Although, it might sound goofy, I do ask myself — WOULD I BUY THIS? And if I feel good about the body….it’s onto the next.
