Marriage, motherhood and a thriving career set the stage for AMY COE to turn a hobby into a brand name in the children’s industry. An enthusiastic collector of vintage textiles (with only a small New York apartment to store them), Amy began designing decorative pillows from her impressive cache. With boutiques snapping up the products as quickly as she could have them made, Amy sensed a broader shared appeal for the charming prints of old. As an accessories designer for many years, she knew the market well and started sourcing materials for fabrics reminiscent of the 1930’s 40’s and 50’s.
The birth of her daughter Liv in 1992, inspired Amy to follow her passion and explore this new direction from home. Realizing there was a void in baby bedding, she focused on sophisticated linens that weren’t too grown up for little girls and boys. To the delight of mothers everywhere, including celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker, Amy introduced a vintage-inspired nursery collection that offered a fresh approach to nostalgic prints. Precious toile patterns paired with oversized rose blossoms, tonal geometrics, classic ticking stripes and dainty dots encouraged new moms to create a mix and match nursery. Specialty stores, department stores and national catalogs nationwide featured Amy’s linens; gratifying both mom and baby.
In January 2003, the Target Corporation introduced amy coe limited edition. Amy created an exclusive collection of baby linens, layette, diaper bags, toys, gifts and more for the mass retailer. As a global brand with a wide audience, Amy’s tastes evolved to include a clean, modern approach. Her designs celebrated pure hues and contemporary accents, encouraging individual style in creating modern spaces for baby to live and dream in. “Adorable Design, Affordable Prices”.
After much success, at the big box chain, Coe launched amy coe at Babies "R" Us in 2008. The collection was the largest product introduction by an exclusive designer in the company’s history. Coe presented an innovative vision with a fresh approach to design for the BRU customer. Designed for the fashionista mom, the amy coe collection included infant furniture, colorful bedding, bath essentials, trendy diaper bags, cozy plush and more. Today, the amy coe brand at Babies "R" Us highlights cozy, hip layette and cutting edge design for infants and toddlers. Coe’s collection is superior in its attention to detail. Sourced with a keen eye, soft fabrics and an exceptional fit, allow the brand to stand apart.
Coe opened her flagship retail shop in downtown Westport, Connecticut in February 2006. Her whimsical boutique featured Amy’s signature linens, kids furniture, fun everyday clothing, bright room décor and an assortment of hand picked gifts for mom and baby! Amy established a loyal clientele who wanted more. Soon, AMY COE HOME; an interior design service for children and grown ups was created.
